When Loomis recently inaugurated the new branch just outside Bordeaux, it marked the culmination of a seven-year development project. By consolidating previously scattered operations under one roof, the company has optimized both daily operations and transport flows. The custom-designed facility houses spacious areas, modern machinery, and a new shooting range complex.

"The new branch is of absolute world class. We run on 100 percent renewable energy, feature solar panels on the roof, vehicles powered by HVO fuel, a water-recycling car wash, and a highly efficient ventilation system that minimizes our environmental impact. The security level is of course very high, and the branch offers a great working environment appreciated by our employees”, says Michel Tresch, President of Loomis France.

A market in transition

In France, Loomis' largest market in Europe, the company is a leading player in secure cash management and logistics. Offering comprehensive services such as cash-in-transit, cash management, and ATM management, its market share is estimated at approximately 45 percent. The operation comprises over 3,000 employees, 1,200 vehicles, and 58 branches.

A clear market trend in recent years is that traditional banks are reducing the number of branches, phasing out cash services, and closing ATMs.

"When banks scale down their services and shut down branches and ATMs, it creates a void in society, which in turn opens up new strategic opportunities for Loomis”, Michel Tresch continues.

Strong growth for automated solutions and Cash 24/7

Growth in Loomis France is primarily driven by an increased demand for automated solutions, such as Loomis SafePoint and the company’s ATMs.

"We install around 1,000 new SafePoints a year and currently operate a total fleet of nearly 6,000 units. It is a secure and smart solution for retailers who would otherwise have to drive long distances to make their deposits. SafePoints make their everyday operations much easier”, says Michel Tresch.

In parallel, the Cash 24/7 concept, the company’s ATM brand, continues to expand. The number of units is approaching 300 and can be found nationwide, though demand is highest in rural areas.

"When villages and smaller communities lose their ATMs, the local economy suffers because residents rely on cash for their daily errands and purchases. Loomis is therefore engaged in an intensive dialogue with mayors and decision-makers, explaining that maintaining access to cash is essential to safeguarding local economic growth and financial inclusion”.

To ensure that ATMs never run out of cash, which would compromise service quality for consumers, Loomis utilizes advanced forecasting tools. The system relies on meticulous real-time monitoring of withdrawals and cassette inventory, ensuring that cash is reloaded at precisely the right time, neither too early nor too late.

Increased demand for transport and storage of precious metals

A specialized segment of Loomis France’s operations involves the transport and storage of precious metals. Demand for these services has risen recently, largely driven by international unrest and geopolitical tensions.

"Loomis holds a strong position in this market and possesses the specialized expertise required to meet the needs of financial institutions, especially since many institutions lack internal solutions for physical handling. The precious metals market is notoriously difficult to forecast, which means we must always remain prepared for sudden changes”, says Michel Tresch.

A thriving economic region

Back in Bordeaux, the Loomis team is continuously optimizing operations, routes, and security logistics in response to shifting external conditions. The Bordeaux region serves as a dynamic economic hub in southwestern France, renowned for world-leading wine production, tourism, high technology, and the aerospace industry.

"Business here has a strong international character and attracts millions of visitors annually, creating a vibrant commercial environment where cash plays a vital role. Cash provides a secure, immediate, and seamless payment option for both tourists and local residents", Michel Tresch concludes.
